The highest-level research institute of the world

"International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (IIIS)" is a research center challenging sleep disorders, which are said to cause social loss of 15 trillion yen annually. Their research is supported by "World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI)".

Director-General, Masashi Yanagisawa has been active on the front lines for many years at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, which is known as one of the top level universities. Based on his experience, the concept of "Open Lab", which had not been common in laboratories in Japan, was adapted to IIIS. Open Lab means the laboratory that enables to "create communication between members without barriers between laboratories", "make it easy to share spaces and equipment between members", etc.
